After being a dedicated Custom camber fan forever I decided to delve into the new world of cam/rock. Pretty comfortable on most of the mountain when boarding except for the really steep stuff. So overall, the YES Standard, doesnt have the camber/pop/turning experience that I prefer but it has near excellent grip, butters super easy, floats in powder really well and gives a really forgiving ride. Never the less here is our take on how the 15s lighter core played on snow compared to the 2014 and 2013 models. Turn Initiation and Carving: Same kind of turn initiation as before but just a little more technical and expert oriented than before. Almost excellent grip and just a shade behind YES underbite technology. Turn Initiation: The Mid-Bite Tech grips but also provides a little faster turn initiation for how much surface area is on snow. The board is made from SWS in Dubai instead of GST in Austria. It can still lay it out in all conditions but if this is important to you look for another board. The more we rode this the more we liked it. Powder: The -20mm setback is now identical to the now discontinued YES Big City so it will be a little short of borderline excellent and do a great job in powder. The lowest score was 70.7/100. So basically its got about as good carving ability as you can get for the amount of float you get in powder. It didn't have as much pop as I am used to when hitting ollies and kickers. The real strong point for us is this base seems to push the Jones Mountain Twin past most on those long flats you can often see at resorts. Jump to Latest Follow 1 - 12 of 12 Posts . There's no particular reason for this, just would like to try another board. The only issue here is the Slam back inserts require a full size disc binding. When it comes to carving its really good for a board that looks like its almost a continuous rocker board. So it doesnt look as much like a twin as it rides on snow. Its no powder specialist but like any good all-mountain board its competent almost anywhere and powder is no exception. Wed say this is almost on the soft side of medium. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. Conditions: Pretty good mid-winter PNW conditions. The only thing that keeps it from being excellent is the flex. It doesnt have the spring to the Ghost on an ollie but it sure does butter easier. The first day I rode it with the gang for a few runs at the demos but then kept it for a little over a week. Its also not super unforgiving on small to mid jumps either. Id say my only complaint with the Mtn Twin is the turn initiation is not that fast in tighter tree situations. I relate my decision to choosing my surfboards from a shaper who knows their stuff.. and believe me Mr Jones knows!! The rocker in the tip/tail makes it really easy. The pop has improved for 2021 and we feel like we can get a little more air out of an Ollie with the 2021 over past models. I mainly ride this board centered but even when its a little set back to get more centered over the camber its easy to ride switch. Uneven Terrain: The board turns quickly through moguls and makes for better ride than you would think in uneven terrain. It just depends on the overall feel you want. Days: 4 Edge Hold: We like the mellow magnetraction that comes with the Jones Snowboards. Switch: I really wasnt buying into the directional volume twin thing at first but after riding switch with a centered stance it felt almost the same. Hel Yes, Jones Twin Sister, and Mind Expander all have great float but get a little more bogged down in the deeper snow, making them more fatiguing to ride on the best pow days. Powder: The extra camber (almost all camber) and centered stance detract from its float from last year. Despite all the changes it still defines what we call a one board quiver/all mountain board. So what Im saying is it butters really well and the nose/tail with that rocker flex easier than you would think on snow than when you flex it in the shop. Set-Up: 21, 21.5 Wide. Gameghangers LP The YES Standard has a directional volume twin shape that acts pretty much like a true twin when on reference stance. In comparison to all the other YES all mountain boards this is really easy to butter. Switch:Felt more like a twin than a directional twin when riding switch. Pair this with a good shock absorbent binding and its going to be pretty good on the joints. It will be recommendable for a much wider range of riders than the previous years models. Id love to see them make it a little faster edge to edge. And as advertised, this is an all purpose, all-mountain boardmeaning if you travel for trips and only have one board to bring, this qualifies nicely. It makes it very easy to skid a turn and its very forgiving but still has a pretty stable feel underfoot for one footing off a chair or flat basing. Sounds like mountain twin is the way to go. Set-Up: 21, 21.5, 22 Wide. Besides the slight lack of speed, the board was a little too soft for me. Other than adding a 167 to the sizing, the 2020 YES Standard has not changed since 2018. Its also pretty strong if you want to center it up for switch powder riding so its a pretty versatile powder ride. Get the Ghost if you want something more powerful on a carve and more pop and you dont mind it being less forgiving. The base has good glide too. Jibbing: No thank you. Groomers The Jones Twin is a good all conditions groomer board and works well for a directional twin. I think the thing that I like most was how stable it was at high speed on every surface, and how it boogied around trees. The Jones Mountain Twin comes in as the cheaper of the two styles of snowboards, but not by a lot. Pipe: Its a great pipe board. Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Northwave Decades Its a twin on sidecut. Then I went to the burton process and loved it, it was easy to ride and the camber profile was great. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. No one had a bad thing to say about this board and everyone wanted it. So all in all the Yes Standard continued on where the 2016 Optimistic left off and even though it has a moderately stiffer flex its a really fun quick turning all mountain ride. We did not notice a difference with the centered stance. Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Adidas Acerra I switched to the Arbor Coda and haven't looked back (see my Coda Review). Speed: Its a pretty fast board and likes to bomb for sure. Turning Experience: Once its over on edge turning this board is pretty fun and the sidecut seems to like all kinds of turning radius. Switch:If you want to center up the stance and ride switch its still a directional twin that will almost ride like a true twin. Jibs Probably one of the only areas where it doesnt do very well. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Uneven Terrain: With a little extra work it can weave in and out through bumps but its not a specialist here. It stays above the snow well even when its centered. I bought it cause I loved the graphic on it too. I regretted not riding that board first immediately. We ride all East Coast PA, a lot of icy groomers. This is much better for intermediate riders or for those more advanced/expert riders that want a more forgiving ride. So if you want to use the slam back inserts a 21.5 stance width is whats required. Come join the discussion about equipment reviews, tips, traveling, gear troubleshooting, share photos, and more! Some people love it, some people hate it (I'm among this group), and some people can take it or leave it. It takes a few days of riding in varying conditions to really appreciate. Needless to say it was the unanimous favorite in the All Mountain Category. I demo'd the Mountain Twin last year (Christmas 2013) and bought it because I liked the "old school" straight camber that allowed for nicely carved turns with a little pop coming out of the turns. Speed: Its no bomber but its got enough to handle big, steep wide open groomers and then slow down and butter around when it gets flat. So all in all the 16 Standard isnt as versatile as the 15 Standard but still can make a really strong technical aggressive all mountain freestyle rider happy. The 2022 model did not change vs. the 2021 in this review or since this model was updated in 2018. Its a shade less forgiving than the older model but still a great time. Super easy to one foot and flat base. I have this years 156 jones mountain twin wide and its amazing. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-195lbs), Jimbo (Size 11, 511 160lbs), Zobel (Size 11.5, 6 180lbs, Peter (Size 8, 511 185lbs) The hybrid camber under the feet makes for a very lively easy to turn board. We all love the more pronounced camber upgrade along with the set back of -20mm. 2022. For jumping, this board has a nice, predictable pop to it. On Snow Feel: The personality of the board never changes from powder to ice or from peak to jib park. 156W: 10-11 Set Up:22.5 Centered 12 front -12 back, Similar Boards (but not the same) That We Compared This To:Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Loaded Algernon, Capita Mercury, YES Ghost, YES Not So Basic Globe. Speed: The Jones Mountain Twin 2014-2013 is great at almost any speed. Both are a bit sluggish turning through the bumps but the MT handles the crowded messy resort snow a bit better than the UMT. We didnt try this in powder but based on our experience in powder with former models we just know the new nose, although shorter will float just fine. Missing pop some YES boards Have. Its nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused hybrid camber boards like the YES Jackpot or even the old Jones Mtn Twin but it isnt bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding. I actually prefered the Yes Optimistic because its a little more forgiving and Im not a standout pipe rider. Definitely Jones mtn twin. Jibbing: Not a jib board and I wouldnt like to do anything other than a forgiving easy box. This is great for tracking in a stable easy way to a natural feature on the mountain or a kicker in the park when you want to get air because it doesnt feel like the board is asking you to turn. Pipe: The Yes Standard is a great Pipe board and I cant wait to get more time in this pipe when we get this board for the season. If you like to center it up and ride groomers/park switch this is a great call. The 2018 Yes Standard had a major overhaul. With a 20.7 stance width you can set it back 2.25 back from center of the board when using the slam back inserts. Bindings: Burton Diode, Flux SF, Union Factory, Salomon Defender Its an easy ride one footing off a chair or flat basing on a long flat run. Yes Standard 2022 versions. I'm fairly experienced. For example, in 2017 there was a 156 and a 156w. Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, F.I.T. Flex: Its a medium flex and it sits right in the middle of medium. James, Jimbo, Peter, Kyle, Stephen, Mary, Lee and a few other friends not on the site. The Fora platform includes forum software by XenForo. It feels softer than its rating on Yes site. Pipe: The improved edge hold will make this a great pipe board. Check Their sizes as well for their take and especially so for weight. And the basic/typo would be more playful and looser than the mountain twin? Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. I also felt fairly confident bombing down runs. This makes for a very consistent feel underfoot in all conditions when one footing off the chair or flat basing. On Snow Feel: Feels like the wide version of the Standard I use to own. It is ahead of disrupted sidecuts like from Arbor and Jones or mellow mag from Lib-Tech/Gnu. This is a great board for hard to icy snow. However, for Jimbo and Zobel the 158w is for sure the call. The Capita basically has a bump between the bindings to help with edge hold while Yes basically has an indent between the bindings to do the same. Bindings: Burton Diode The base when waxed still has a great glide that holds its speed for a long ride. Great pop really digs in for carving groomers. Usually they excel in one condition but falter in another but not this ride. The Yes Standard is updated for 2016 and has some changes that make it less friendly for less advanced riders but make it more friendly for the strong expert rider. We try to get as many images of the Jones Mountain Twin, but forgive us if they're not all there. Turn initiation and Carving-The turn initiation is a little more work than the older version mainly due to more camber between the feet. Good board for those that like to ride with either foot forward but still want to set it back far for powder. There are no surprises. It still isnt going to keep up with Alt Freeride and Freeride boards like the Y, Hybrid, Optimistic or Pick Your Line but it does really well for a directional twin. Flex: The flex has come a long way since the old GST days and the new SWS model is softer and it doesnt feel like a 4.5 out of 5. James, Jimbo, Matt, Peter and a friend of ours named Ren, James, Matt,, Peter, Jimbo and many others. I've had the typo for 3 seasons now. If you live to ride groomers and stay mostly on the mountain the New Jones Mountain Twin will make you very happy. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. Much more fun to ollie and about the same on the roller coaster line in the park. With the stance set all the way back it can be a pretty good very easy floating powder board. Jumps: Much better pop than the old design. 162: 12-13 If you do you get a 3.5 difference between nose and tail or a 1.75 set back from the center of the board. Thats really far back for an all mountain board. The product brochure hada typo. Its still not fun but its morebearable. The Optimistic 2016 and Standard 2017 have the same directional volume twin shape and same camber profile so I can vouch for the Standard. Its a little bit chattery in the tip and tail when you are bombing but you get use to it pretty quick. With a strong lean I can lay a driving carve back up hill and have fun doing it. I've be willing to bet the same is true for Mid-bite but I haven't ridden that sidecut. . Size: 156 . Ride it like a mountain freestyle twin on groomers but then set it back in powder and get some pretty good directional float if you dont feel like riding switch. There are more sizes though. Its not perfect but its got some strong jib personality. Conditions: Some pretty rough, wet hard to ride spring conditions, some ok groomers, and some early summer slackountry time with Drift Boards. Switch: So even though the tail has less volumeit doesnt until after the effective edge so its a twin between the feet. This review has been re-done to reflect how it sits in 2022. A little bit more camber in the profile would make this more fun. The 2020 YES Ghost also has set back inserts (Slamback) for powder days so you arent compromising as much as you were in 2019. Again its all about compromising with a one quiver board and I think most prefer the extra float in powder. The Jones Mountain Twin can skid turns too. It takes some work to butter. The turning is like butter, the speed isnt like the capita and about the same as the Process if not a little faster. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Uneven Terrain: We actually like the Jones Mountain Twin better here with uneven terrain than the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. The 153 works best with my size 9 boots and the 156 works best with my 185 lbs and less importantly, my 510 frame. The Standard is basically a true twin with basically a lower volume tail to help with float and likely helps it track a little better when riding your dominant direction. Goggle: Smith IO Mag, Smith 4D Mag If you like mellow turns it can do most radius turns. On Snow Feel: The extra camber adds some stability but it still doesnt feel catchy. The YES Standard is lacking pop and a satisfying turning experience but is a buttery, forgiving, grippy and good floating ride. Buttering: Such a great board for buttering. Great set back on board for powder. Flex/Buttering: The Yes Standard has a flex that is softer than what YES says so its easier on snow than you would think to butter. If you size this correctly for your boots it is medium to medium quick. Its a big bump down in comparison to the augmented camber of the YES Ghost which has the same shape and specs except for the camber profile. Its got a great stable feel to it and itsgot a camber feel underfoot that doesnt catch. Boots: Burton SLX, Burton Fiend LTD, Salomon F3.0,Burton Fiend,Burton Ion,Salomon Synapse On groomers it acts like a twin on edge but in powder this floats more like a directional board. Bindings: Union Atlas Days: 3+ So overall we love the blunt tip/tail, the addition of middle bite tech and feel its still a great board. However if you compare this to something like theJones Flagshipits going to come up a short. GET ONE NOW!! So if you want speed, go with the Frontier, and if you want to tear up a terrain park, get yourself a Mountain Twin. Conditions:Pretty much everything from 2+ feet of powder to ice. Its still pretty much the same ride but just pops a little better on an ollie and springs out of a turn a little better. However it still is a very easy board to get to know riding the other direction. The mid-bite technology of the YES Standard provides close to excellent grip but also provides quicker turn initiation than you would think for this width over the bindings. So much that I bought a Jones Flagship to charge harder. Its for those that know how to turn correctly all the time. So the 2018 review still stands and the changes werent big enough to tax Jones to borrow the board again. This is a stand out when it comes to powder riding compared to most all mountain boards out there. That combined with the early rise rocker in the nose gives much better float than most mountain freestyle twins that have minimal set back on board that is often closer to 1 back from the center of the board.
